In today’s 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚-𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, some 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐬 deliberately manufacture controversies to gain views, reach, and short-term popularity. Comments like 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐣𝐢’s remarks on women’s dressing at a movie release function appeared to many as a calculated move to spark controversy for film promotion. Such tactics exploit sensitive social issues to keep a film or personality in the public eye. At the same time, certain YouTube channels irresponsibly spread fake news, such as false claims that “𝐊𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐚” was no more, misleading audiences for clicks. While these controversies generate temporary attention and monetization, they erode public trust and social responsibility. When legal or public backlash arises, apologies are often used as an escape route rather than genuine accountability. This trend highlights the urgent need for stronger vigilance and monitoring by social media platforms to curb misuse of controversies for profit.
