The Annual Diwali – Sparkle of Joy Civic Reception, hosted by Hindus of DFW, brought together a distinguished gathering of civic leaders, Hindu American community representatives, interfaith partners, and international dignitaries for an evening of cultural celebration, civic engagement, and shared purpose.
Held in Dallas, the event welcomed Mayors, Mayor Pro Tems, and Council Members from over 15 cities across the DFW Metroplex, along with County Commissioners from Dallas, Collin, and Ellis Counties. The keynote address was delivered by Coppell Mayor Wes May, who emphasized on the need for unity and collaboration across the diverse communities that live together in the DFW Metroplex.
Collin County Commissioner Susan Fletcher presented a special proclamation recognizing Sewa Diwali, a community-wide food drive led by Hindu organizations with the ambitious goal of donating over one million pounds of food to those in need.
The reception featured a powerful address by New York State Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar, who shared how her Hindu values and upbringing shaped her commitment to public service and community empowerment. Mrs. Meenakshi Lekhi, Former Minister of State, Government of India, reflected on the values that define the American dream—meritocracy, scientific temperament, and a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Over 120 Hindu American community leaders, representing more than 70 organizations, participated in the event, showcasing the strength and unity of the Hindu diaspora in North Texas. The evening began with a Ganesha Pooja led by a renowned priest, followed by a Diya lighting ceremony with dignitaries and Shank Naad.
Cultural performances included a Bharatanatyam recital by students of the Ellora Center for Performing Arts, and classical music presentations by students from Indian Fine Arts Academy DFW and Sangeetha Bhaarathi. The event also featured photobooths and media interviews hosted by iAsia News, New India Abroad, and Fun Asia, amplifying the voices and stories of the community.
In a meaningful gesture of interfaith solidarity, representatives from the Jewish community joined the celebration, reinforcing the inclusive and collaborative spirit of the evening.
Pankaj Kumar delivered the welcome address, highlighting the Hindu American community’s contributions to the DFW economy and civic life, and the importance of living by Dharma—doing what is right and true, inspired by the values of Bhagwan Ram.
Gitesh Desai of Sewa International delivered a vote of thanks, followed by a sumptuous dinner catered from Delhi Lounge.
Hindus of DFW is a dynamic alliance of over 70 Hindu American organizations representing 350,000 community members across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. United in service and spirit, the coalition includes temples, cultural institutions, nonprofits, and local businesses with active engagement in every major city and county.
